So...who
is Scoutco? Where did we come from? Why are we here? Scoutco has long been the pet name for the shop at my parent's house where we worked on our IH's and other vehicles. My brother and I tossed around the idea of starting a business in that name for several years. When my wife and I had our first child Matthew, and she quit her job to be a stay-at-home mom, she and I decided that we could start Scoutco out of the spare room in the house. So, here we are. The main "players" in Scoutco are Mike and Jennifer Moore. Chances are one of us will be who answers the phone or email when you contact us. Our son, Matthew, is not quite ready for that job, yet. His time is coming, though. I (Mike) have been driving and playing with Scouts since 1998, when I pulled the 1980 diesel Scout II out of the weeds behind mom & dad's house and started driving it. I had several local shops price putting floors and rockers in it, and rapidly decided that I was going to tackle it myself. I learned a lot doing that job...and it isn't really "right"...but I got it done! After all, this is the Scout that I remember mom taking me to grade school in, and I'm proud to still drive it! The rest is history. Jennifer's first ride in a Scout was in that same 1980 diesel. While we were dating in high school in the mid 90's, I took it over to her family's house during my lunch break from work (school was out for snow!) and plowed the snow out of their driveway. She rode along...and honestly, I think she was a little less than impressed. Today, the orange and black half cab 1980 is hers. She might argue that it's really mine, which isn't entirely false...but she did at least pick the color! Unfortunately, Matthew didn't get to ride home in any of the Scouts. Jennifer thought that her Subaru might be a wiser choice. The day we brought him home, though...I started to break him in right! Now he can pick a Scout out of a line-up, and even has a few IH toys of his own. So...why are we doing this? I have a passion for Scouts, and Jennifer wanted something to do while Matt was sleeping during the day. How's that for plain and simple? And I guess maybe it would be nice to make a little "toy" money on the side, too. I looked around at some products currently on the market, and I think I can make them better, for the same or often less money. I also found some voids that needed to be filled...some products that aren't available that I thought should be. Many of these items are on my to-do list for later on after Scoutco makes it's first zillion bucks, but I hope to be able to constantly (though likely slowly) expand our product line. I've got ideas, but I also have a full time job that keeps me from making all of my ideas into reality too quickly. We are going to do all that we can to provide parts and products that prove themselves, and service that is respectable. If we say we're going to do something, we're gonna do it. If you ever have an issue that you feel like we need to do something to resolve, please call us. We are serious about customer service! |
